The most difficult part of being a guardian to animals is knowing that at some point you will have to say goodbye.  They live on in our hearts and memories.  Rest in peace Trooper & Craigo Moore!  You were loved.  I have missed you both and will never forget you.

Kirsten’s beloved cat, Charlie, died yesterday, a year and a month to the day since Kirsten died.  Her brother, Marshall, had been taking care of her, and she seemed to be doing just fine until old age caught up with her.  I’m appending a small poem in tribute to this cat as well as attaching a photo of her with Kirsten.  On coming home from the hospital the year she died, the first thing Kirsten wanted to do was hold Charlie.

CHARLIE

Charlie was a long-haired gray with some

Siamese, so you’ll know she had a voice

on her when she spoke up.  Having lived

to great age, she died peacefully in her sleep.

Charlie was a great cat.  No one who knew

her would dispute that.  In this family, we

have a memory bank, and her place there

is secure.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and Beth and all the animals in this world who need our love and care,

Laurel

In memory of Lucy, who stuck by my side for twelve years. She was a very loyal and gentle dog who loved her mama and her Frisbee. Lucy was a maternal presence for all my other pets and always saw to it that all the other animals played well together. She will always be remembered and missed. ––Beth Clifton

In memory of Hole, age 50-plus, a Gulf Coast box turtle named for the hole in his shell that someone drilled at some point to hold a tether. Hole was acquired by American Tortoise Rescue founder Susan Tellem in the early 1990s from a Los Angeles pet store where he was at imminent risk of dying from an untreated infection. American Tortoise Rescue welcomes memorial donations c/o 30745 PCH, #243, Malibu CA 90265.
