World Animal Day in Nairobi, Kenya

Besides conducting two successful awareness campaign marches on World Animal Day, October 3, under the themes “Animals Matter” and “Global March for Elephants and Rhinos, we the Africa Network for Animal Welfare, Kenyans United Against Poaching, and the Pan African Animal Welfare Alliance joined other organizations under the auspices of Animal Welfare Action Kenya in conducting an animal clinic that vaccinated dogs, cats and donkeys against rabies and treated animals for various ailments. The Animal Welfare Action Kenya members include the Kenya Veterinary Association, Kenya SPCA, and the Donkey Sanctuary.

The “Global March for the Elephants and Rhinos” was graced by the participation of the conservation director from the Ministry of Environment, Water and Natural Resources, U.S. ambassador Robert Godec, Kenya Wildlife Service representative Julius Cheptei, and conservationists Paula Kahumbu and Jim Nyamu, amongst others. The “Animals Matter” march was graced by Joan Magero representing the country’s Director of Veterinary Services.
