Olive Walker, 91, died on October 2, 2014 in Los Angeles, California.
“She was a dancer in her earlier years,” recalled longtime friend Eileen Weintraub, founder of Help Animals India.
An animal advocate, cat rescuer, and frequent donor to animal causes, Walker endowed the Olive Walker Alternatives Fund as a project of Concern for Helping Animals in Israel, “to promote alternatives to the use of animals in laboratories in Israel, according to the CHAI web site.
“We are now offering an annual grant of $25,000 to a scientist or student interested in developing an alternative to an existing animal experiment,” the CHAI web page explains. “The grants can be multiyear: $25,000 each year for up to three consecutive years.”

olive sounds like a wonderful woman, concerned about the suffering of animals while trying to educate others to that suffering. It is difficult to replace someone who was so caring and now we are left to be thankful for her long life.
I remember speaking with Ms. Walker telephonically several times while working with an AV organization. She will be greatly missed. May the generous grant help others to carry on in her memory on behalf of all animals, especially the cats she loved and advocated for.
