Kristine Reiser, 50, of Pasadena, California, a volunteer for Angel City Pit Bulls, was killed at about 9 p.m. on July 4, 2014 when she was hit by a car while giving aid to an injured dog near the intersection of Highway 46 and Martin Avenue in Lost Hills, California.
“A 19-year-old woman with her, identified as Sara Noel Barnett, of Eugene, suffered minor injuries. The officer who filed the initial report did not indicate what happened to the dog,” reported KBAK/KBFX. The driver of the car that hit them, David Ramirez Cruz, 28, was not charged with any offense.
The safe way to rescue an animal from a roadway is to position one’s own vehicle between the animal and the oncoming traffic, with four-way flashers on.
