Anti-fur protests in China

Hundreds of volunteers protested fur use on February 25,  2014 at the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong International Fur Fair.  Thanks to Animal Earth Hong Kong for organizing this protest.  One of the main organizers is a radio station show host.  She interviewed me about fur for a program targeting Chinese people who live in San Francisco and Hong Kong.

This was the first time that ACTAsia participated in a protest in Hong Kong. Our China manager Isobel Zhang brought our poster and leaflets.

ACTAsia on January 12,  2014 held our first Fur Free Life-Cruelty Free Fashion Show in Beijing.  This was the first fur-free themed fashion show in China.  More than 130 participants joined our catwalk performance and award ceremony.  Fifteen Chinese professional models  took part,  showing looks from John Bartlett of New York,  Awakening of Shenzhen,  the Taiwan Aboriginal Cultural Association,  Dress Code of Zhongshan,  and T-ETERNO of Beijing,  with vegan shoes from Puma,  Dress Code,  and Beijing Cotton Shoes.

We also invited 30 young celebrities to sing at the event,   including Liu Ya Ting, Cui Tian Qi,  and Gao Yang.  The China National Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet provided the opening music.  We also screened a video clips about fur by Segolia Design and Respect of Animals.

LUSH Hong Kong demonstrated cruelty-free make-up.

Special thanks to Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth founder Soyun Park and international director A.J. Garcia,  who flew to China from Seoul,  South Korea,  to help support this fashion show.  This shows the growing strength of collaboration among Asian animal groups.

Special thanks also go to Joh Vinding,  P.J. Smith,  the Humane Society of the U.S. Fur Free Campaign,  and VegFund,  along with all ACTAsia staff and volunteers and Fur Free Asia members.
